CONVENT & THE ROSE, RILEY'S GIFT

THE CONVENT AND THE ROSE

After five years as a prisoner of the Mescaleros, Maria escapes to Presidio, where she begs for work in a cantina owned by the local madam, Mama Sieta. There she meets lovable and unique characters such as Old Bac, Sheriff Tucker and Pigtail, who is afraid of the spooky church San Cristobal. An Irish nun gives a few laughs and encouragement as she vies with Mama Sieta for the soul of the young girl. Wicked Juanita and Curiosity are the greatest enemies to the love she has for Montana, her rugged outlaw with the gunfighter eyes, who is intent on stealing gold from another outlaw and uses some tomfoolery to reach his gold. Due to a misunderstanding, Maria is forced to play a dual role. What mystery binds her to the mission and convent of the roses, San Cristobal and the glowing cross? Will she ever know?

Excerpt from:

                                  A BALLAD FOR MONTANA

Down in Presidio, there on the border one night, I met a young cowboy whose loving made everything right.  His hair was golden like the sand, an outlaw was this dark-eyed man who came to me one night.  It might have been wrong but loving Montana made everything right.  His smile was like the rising sun that stayed though the day was done, his kisses were like sweet honey-fire, filling us both with desire.  It might have been wrong but loving Montana made everything right.

I was looking for love, he was searching for gold, to steal all the money that Will Coker had stole.  He was the paymaster, this was his plan, a ruse to join up with the outlaw band.  He took a room at Miss Emma's in town, but he came to me when the sun went down.  I was his girl, but I wanted his name.  I waited and waited but the words never came.

Wicked Juanita said all men are the same, if you want to win him you must play the game.  I listened to all of lies and her schemes and that's how I lost the man of my dreams.   (To find out more, read the story)

RILEY'S GIFT

ROMANCE, HUMOR, DRAMA, WAR AND A LITTLE ESP

The consciousness of old San Cristobal awakens.  It sleeps no more because its lost companion is once more reborn.  Her memory has awakened this guardian of the past.  It looks for and finds her in the future time, our present day world.  She is a young doctor born with the GIFT of touch and ESP abilities, which are encouraged by her adopted father, a Professor of Stem Cell and Paranormal Research.

She has been in love with a musician and a VIP personality since she was fourteen years old.  What happens when they meet?  He is astonished when he sees her, for she is the woman that he has dreamed about for thirteen years, his night bride.  But, this one is no innocent, as far as he is concerned, she is just a wicked woman.

He is in Kathleen's mind, a love that she once knew in another time and place, but how can that be?  It is stupid to believe in reincarnation, yet how can she explain the low opinion that he has of her, this fiery passion of wanting and hate?  Yes, somewhere in the past, she must have hurt him very deeply, what other explanation is there?

The fireworks and misunderstandings between Kathleen and David lead her all the way from Atlanta to Presidio where she once more meets and remembers the past.  There, she comes face to face with the Spirit of old San Cristobal, a semi-fallen angel known as Old of Old.  When given the chance, will Kathleen do the right thing?  Can she love someone enough to let them go?  What strange mystery happens on the battlefield in Iraq?  Will all hope be lost there for these star-crossed lovers, or will the mysterious Old of Old create a miracle of happiness for them?  Riley's Gift will touch your heart, and once again, you will believe in the magic of love.

  A READING FROM RILEY'S GIFT

It is midnight, I am awake; the age of my sleep is unknown.  However, one thing is for certain, I am because my lost companion lives.  She is in the flesh and doth remember me.  No longer is she bound by the Convent and the Rose, but dwells anew in a distant place.

Although, she is very far away, I can still sense her innermost thoughts.  She is confused and a little frightened by the memories that plague her mind.  Another time, another place, are they for real, or just some imaginary part being played out in her over-stressed mind?

Rational analysis tries but cannot compete with the heart which claims a special memory of its own; a love that will not let go, one so perfect that it matches the soul.

                                            REVIEW FOR RILEY'S GIFT

Riley's Gift - A review by Cynthia DeVaughn.  This is an excellently written story.  You are on the edge of your seat reading the whole time.  You love, hate, laugh and cry throughout the whole book.  The characters are very endearing; some bring humor and others bring the urge to slap them.  Even at the end I wanted to know more but was satisfied.  Riley is witty and genuinely honest with herself even though she isn't always honest with everyone else.  I love to read but haven't been able to read alot lately and this book quenched that desire to every extent.  It is a love story, a mystery, and a drama; it even had a good helping of humor intertwined in it.  I would suggest everyone that just loves a good story to get this book, you won't regret it.  It is unmistakeably a 5 star book.  Cynthia DeVaughn - Author of "A Mother Journey to Patience: and "Loves's Journey to a Woman's Soul."

A Sequel to Riley's Gift is now in the making.

REVIEWS FOR CONVENT AND THE ROSE

I just finished reading the Convent and the Rose and I had a hard time putting it down. The Author paints the picture of the landscape and the people in such realism.  I immediately felt like I was there in that period.  The dialogue is excellent and very well done.  I felt as though I was right there talking to them.  I had no problem following the Chinese, Irish and Mexican dialogues.  It just made all the characters come to life.  Excellent story line!  The author leaves just enought to make one want to read more and find the answers.  Just when you think you have them, then there are more twists and turns.  The story is unpredictable until the very end.  It is a great read for both male and female audiences. 5*  Neil Allen, Author of Symphony2Finish

Kathy Bunn-Schultz has done a wonderful job of creating characters that you can fall in love with.  The Convent and the Rose is a heartwarming story of love, mystery, with many twists and turns that leave you sitting on the edge of your chair.  I highly recommend this author's work.  I can't wait to read more.  Donna Laird, Author of Forever Yours and Katrina's Destiny.
